History

Hanns-Werner Glöckle is looking back on a long career at the Oktoberfest. In the 1980s, he was the manager of the »Augustiner Fasthalle« hall for three years.

In 1990 Hanns-Werner Glöckle took over the »Platzl-Wirt«, owned at that time by Peter Inselkammer, and turned it into the Glöckle-Wirt and at the same time supplied it with its unique decorations and furnishings.

In 2002 the Glöckle-pavilion burned down in the biggest fire at the Oktoberfest after World War II, but already one year later a new fest-tent could be reopened. It is noticeably higher and has more open space especially at the top of the tent, where there is a long balcony and many windows, that can be opened like in a real Bavarian cottage.

It took Hanns-Werner Glöckle more than one year and a lot of money to collect all the antiques and rustic decoration that are today piled up to the roof of the Glöckle-Wirt – the Oktoberfest’s smallest but probably most vivid fest-tent. A sight you simply can’t miss.
